The main focus of the group will be Fairtrade/Ethical issues. We would like to link up with our school chaplaincy team in this venture, as they also have an interest in this area, with the possibility of expanding into becoming an ecofriendly school and finding ways of generating income from eco projects. There is no limit to the number of pupils that can beinvolved, if they are interested, but the start up group will be the current enterprise committee, just to get us up and running.

    Ferryhill Enterprise Hothouse

We have two clubs bursting with enterprising enthusiasm. Year 8 students run a stationery shop for the school’s feeder primary schools. They’ve shared expertise with their local university and with other schools. Year 10 students have sought the advice of local business people to develop a greetings card business. They both create and make their own cards, and source cards and gift bags from wholesalers. The students also reach out to local community by running events such as an Action Aid Coffee Morning.

Happy Earth Co @ Park View

We are raising money for developing countries through the sale of t-shirts and babygros. We formed ‘Happy Earth Co’ and put a new twist on the slogan t-shirt. Buyers can show the world that their t-shirt has helped buy a goat for an African community or their tea towel has helped buy a well. They can even dress their new born in an ethical babygro! We plan to use existing connections with charities such as Oxfam and to build new connections to grow the business further.

    Marden

Marden High School has been up and running with the Make Your Mark Challenge as of November 2005. We managed to run the event with a large number of Business Studies students and they had such a good experience we extended the challenge to the whole year 10 yeargroup for 2006 and 2007. Our winning team of students came up with a fantastic idea of a talking toothbrush which was carefully researched and thoughtfully financed. Meanwhile Year 9 Gifted and Talented students are developing an idea for making an MP3 player that can be used in the bath! They did an excellent pitch at the regional final and were almost sent forward to London. We did send them to Coventry!! They had a great day with other MYM teams and enjoyed the trip and the day extensively. We have been able to extend the enterprise activities throughout the school and have valued greatly the input and support from the MYM team. We are looking to bring a group of Year 8 students to the showcase day as they have been working on a DVD to promote the “Look of the Future” for the local region, using CAD, animation and other …
