Does anyone have any tips on Marketing?

Posted by: Drapper Home School

We seem to come up with loads of ideas and manage to produce the product or services OK, but we get stuck when it comes to marketing. Does anyone have any tips on the best ways to market and advertise?

    Dear Ruth

Marketing is a tricky thing to do. There are two things I have learnt from a man called Seth Godin who is a bit of a marketing guru.

    1) Create a Purple Cow. Make sure your product or service is remarkable or distinct in some way. Imagine if you saw a purple cow - you would go wow! And you would tell all your friends about it. You want your product or service to have this effect, so that people talk about you and spread the message about your business by word of mouth. It doesn’t have to be an original or brand new product or service - just make it stand out from the crowd. For example, if you are providing a car-washing service - make it the fastest / cheapest / most eco-friendly car-washing service in town - give people a reason to talk about it!

    2) Create a fan club Turn strangers into friends Turn friends into customers Turn customers into fans

If you manage to do this, you effectively create a fan club who love your product or service so much that they do your marketing job for you - by telling everyone they meet about you. In order to create an effective fan club you need to - give them a reason to love you - give them a clear message to shout

Hopefully this gives you some things to think about when developing your marketing.

    Regards

    Jo
